Yes it does, if your doctor deems necessaryb but you must have it at a hospital the usually preform bariatic surgery with a low rate of death. This is to ensure that you have state of the art health care availble to you.

As of 2/2006 Medicare started covering bariatric surgery for obese patients suffering from health problems related to their obesity if performed by a center approved by the ACS or ASBS.

Medicare covers some bariatric procedures if you are morbidly obese and have a co-morbid condition such as diabetes. Surgery must be performed in a certified Bariatric Surgery Center.

For the most part medicare will not cover any surgery that is considered cosmetic in nature. You would need to check with your state plan to determine if it is covered or not.

It depends on whether the hospital you want to have the bariatric surgery at has been approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. There are many hospitals and surgery centers around the country that have received the approval and can get bariatric surgery for their patients covered by Medicare.
