That's exactly where it comes from - Cashmere goats. The scientific species name is Capra hircus laniger or Capra aegagrus hircus.

Cashmere comes from the wool of same name goats and other type of goats. The name usually applies to animal fibers with certain characteristics: soft, long, resistant, and light. The name comes from the hand-made shawls made from goat wool in the ancient Indian region of Kashmir.
