When dealing with rust the most important thing to remember is rust is alive kind of like cancer for your car, You must cut the rust spots out first. Then I always use tiger glass to cover the holes. Sand and its ready for paint.

Car's rust spots can be cleared by removing the rust completely from the affected area. Then the weak paint near to the affected area should also be removed using a smooth emery paper. Then car paint putty should be applied to the area which is uncovered now. Let it dry for 12 hours. Then you can paint the area.

Unless you want to redo your work in the future then the rust must be removed not just covered. Rust will bubble and bleed through anything you put on top of it. This usually means stripping down to bare metal or using a high quality converter/encapsulator. Once it is free of rust then you can prime and paint it.

Some auto rust repairs can be done using baking soda, mix the baking soda with water, brush it on thickly this will coat the rust spot and prevent further damage. This is not a waterproof solution. Cutting out the rust spot and using a fiberglass patch is the best resolution.

For simply covering rust the best approach is to sand down the rusted area to the bare metal unaffected by corrosion, spray with primer paint, and the cover with a spray paint color best matching your current car color. This will remove the rust and seal your car body from further corrosion.
