Do Mexican people really take siestas?

How does that work?

I'm pretty sure this belief comes from the Spaniards who did have siestas after having lunch or because of the weather, and some of them still have, but not Mexicans. This isn't a tradition anymore, at least not in Mexico.

Siestas are still a tradition in Mexico. People enjoy large lunches and feel the need to rest for a couple of hours after. Many local businesses, including restaurants, close between 2:00PM and 4:00PM for the traditional siesta during the work week. Mexicans who live near their jobs will often go home to nap.

Yes. Siestas are simply naps. The same ones you and I take sometimes. However, in Mexico, the weather is, at times, very hot. Sometimes the temperature inside a building is hotter than the temperature outside due to poor ventilation. This is why Mexicans come outside of their house and take naps on their chairs in front of their house!
