All mammals have the same basic tooth structure (enamel over dentine). Although cats can get cavities, they aren't subject to the same acidic damage that humans are from foods like fruit and soda. Many experts suggest owners brush their pet's teeth, as dental health can affect overall health.

Cats are like any other being with teeth--they get tooth decay. You can get equipment to clean your cat's teeth, although this is not one of their favorite activities. Your vet should check your cat's teeth annually. Bad breath may also be an indicator of tooth decay.

Yes, cats definitely get cavities. I took my kitty to the vet in January for another problem, and the vet showed me big red spots on Dooey's teeth that were cavities. Some of them could be repaired, but others were so bad that the teeth had to be pulled.

Yes, cats can get cavities, or dental caries, just like humans and other animals. If a cavity gets deep enough, the tooth can become painful or infected, and your veterinarian may have to remove it. Your cat's vet should check your cat's teeth as part of an annual checkup.
