To wire a distributor, first you need to figure out your vehicle's firing order. This means in which order the cyclinders fire. Most distributor caps are labeled one through however many cylinders your vehicle has. Connect each wire in their proper firing order.

You should have three wires and some may have more. One wire will be positive, One will be ground. One wire will go to the tachometer if you have one in your vehicle. Be careful not to cross them or you could harm the electronics in your distributor.

There should only be two plugs. One for the tach and one for power. Look up your firing order and setting the you #1 plug where the arm is. Then install the plug wires.

Before you begin this job, it's best to grab a skateboard. Roll under the car and look to the left of the gas tank. Find the wires labled "D".

A distributor has one plug, usually in the center, connecting it to the ignition coil. The other plugs go to the spark plug wires for each spark plug. Usually, the distributor will have a marking for the #1 cylinder; the firing order can be used to determine the rest. If you marked the wires or distributor beforehand, no problem.

First determine the ignition sequence and location of cylinder #1. Then connect the center's distributor wire to the coil, and #1 cylinder's wire to #1 cylinder in the engine. Then following the ignition sequence connect the rest of the wires. The ignition sequence is different for each engine, but typically it's 1-3-4-2 for a 4 cylinder engine.
