Charging an automotive air conditioning system should only be performed by a qualified a/c repair individual or shop. Many chain automotive parts stores carry kits to recharge vehicles. You will need to find the low side charge port on the a/c lines to connect the kit to.

Install a gauge set on the low and high sides and run the A/C. If the A/C doesn't kick in, install a small amount of refrigerant until it does. Once it runs, install refrigerant until the low side reads 28-32psi and the high side reads near ambient temperature plus 100F.

You should really have a professional charge the system. There should be two recharging ports. Locate the low side and clean the port. Then recharge according to the instructions.

Purchase a/c recharge kit with a pressure gauge. Locate the low pressure a/c port on the Taurus. It is located on the passenger side, near the firewall. Attach the gauge, take a pressure reading. Attach the charging kit adapter for the refrigerant and charge the system to appropriate level.

You probably just need to add freon to ensure the air that the ac unit is blowing out is cold. Go the local auto store and tell them the model and make that you have and they can get you the right product. You can add freon into the resevoir.
