If you like action, Dragon Ball Z has released all of its episodes on DVD. There are hundreds of episodes, and nearly 10 sagas in the anime.

Trigun. This anime has it all. Unique in that it is set in the Wild West, Trigun has action and a heroic storyline. If you like Cowboy Bebop, try Trigun. /^^\

Serial Experiments Lain is not for everyone, but if it happens to be the right thing for you, you will love it. It is quite surreal and thought provoking. Try it.

Ghost in the Shell, Paprika and Blood are my personal favourites, or anything from studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke etc. ). Naruto & Bleach are good series to get into too.

My daughter tells me to buy Blood Plus, it is a really good anime, but you will have to search around a bit to find it.

It depend on your taste. Some of them are inspiring and adventurous. I like to recommend you sakura cardcaptor, hunter x hunter, ufo baby, boys be and fooly cooly.

A good anime to buy is Bleach. It has pleabty of action and is appropriate for school age children to watch.
