Can you paint over wood stain?

My house is all wood stain and I would like some paint.

Answer by  patti (29325)

You can paint the wood. You'll want to make sure the wood is in good condition, sand it and apply a quality primer. The primer will hold the new paint much better. Speak to the experts at the home improvement store about the best options.

Yes, you can paint over stained wood, but you will definitely need to prime the stained surfaces prior to painting to prevent bleeding through the newly painted surface. Your local home hardware store paint associate will be able to recommend a proper primer for your project. Kilz and BIN are two of the top recommended primer makers.

Yes , you can. Before that you remove all the stain from the wood and paint it. Remember polish is better than paint

You can paint over wood stain if the stain has not been sealed. If it has a glossey seal you'll have to remove this first before applying a paint designed for what you are painting.

Yes, you can. Depending on the kind and age of the stain, you may need to lay down a coat of primer. Ask the employees at the hardware store for the best kind given your situation, and be sure to let it dry THOROUGHLY! but after that you're good to go.
