You can, but origami is usually small- standard paper is 6" square. With some inventiveness you could make a number of designs and stitch them together or adhere them to a backing for a very cool, inventive design.
I believe you can make anything out of anything. As far as the how I would suggest making a paper origami box then adding straps on to it to give it a purse like appearance. I would also suggest using a thicker more durable material for the straps.
Take paper that you want to use for the origami purse. Cut it to the size you want. Fold the paper in half towards you then fold the sides. Fold the ends in and there you are you have your purse.
You can use paper origami to make a purse. You will need a pattern I can not provide here. Although the easiest origami purse would be the clutch purse which is rectangle shape and very easy to make. Then all you have to add is a button for the clasp.
