Sedatives can be given to elderly cats however it is recommended that any medications should only have the dosages prescribed by a Vet. Just like with human adults, sometimes older cats don't tolerate medicines as well as when they were younger plus if he/she has some other medical issues your cat may require different doses than a healthy cat would.

In some cases it is possible to give sedatives to elderly cats, however it is not recommended and you should consult with your veterinarian to see what they suggest. As with humans, the effect of a sedative may be different in older cats because of their general health as well as their age.

You may be able to safely give an elderly cat a sedative, but it is always a good idea to check with your vet first. Some cats may tolerate it well whereas others will not. A vet can help you decide what is best for your cat.

Yes, as long as the cat is healthy. This can be determined by a veterinarian by performing blood tests (CBC, full chemistry panel).
