Port wine is a dessert wine which is thick and sweet. It is good with chocolate and cheese. There is also White Zinfadel which is the 'punch' of the wine world. Light, fruity, easy to drink, with a gentle flavor. Shiraz is another one that can be made in a fruity style, which many "sweet" wine drinkers enjoy.

There are various sweet wines. The majority of sweet wines are grown in South Australia. Shiraz is a very sweet wine. Penfolds bottles a number of sweet wines which can go with any informal and formal occasion. Merlot is another sweet wine which is made from a higher amount of grapes.

Look for reisling, moscato, gewurztraminer, ice wine and spumante. The lower the alcohol content, the sweeter the wine tends to be. Woodbridge, Mondavi and Rosa Regale are good brands.

A French Sauternes or a Hungarian Tokai are rich, sensual wines. German Ice-wines have a refreshing quality. A common standby are Spanish Sherries and perhaps the quintessential dessert wine are Portuguese Ports.
