Can you give me suggestions for corrective action for an employee who is to be placed on probation?

The probation is due to unsatisfactory performance.

Deny them overtime. Do not give them preferable shifts. Increase their supervision. Put any reasons for why they are put on probation in detailed notes. This is legal protection in case they sue for unfair dismissal. Require reading on the rules of employment, possibly including a report in the form of a book report.

You should probably talk to them and make sure that they understand there responsibilities. Maybe make sure that there isn't anything going on in their personal life that is affecting there work too.
