It is a good idea to save money where you can on your wedding. But you must check for good quality and value when buying on-line. Comparison shop to check the price. Check shipping costs. Make sure the item is in perfect condition. Do not count on last minute purchases in case they don't arrive.

If done VERY carefully. It'll be cheaper, but beware scams. Buy everything minimum of 6months before wedding to adjust for mistakes. Ask for samples and study each item thoroughly first.

With the exception of food items and fresh florals you could buy everything for your wedding on eBay. Some items bought from eBay can really save you money but you have to be careful. Not everything on eBay is a good deal price wise, and you need to be sure you choose reputable sellers with good feedback ratings.
