I have red and white peonies in the garden at home and I can say from experience that they can grow and beeing surrounded by bushes and grass and other flowers. Unfortunately are seasonal flowers, spring flowering only, merely leaves the rest of the year. Peonies lose their leaves in winter, but leave woody stems.
