Mateus wine is medium sweet rose wine from Portugal. It is a frizzante wine, which means that it has a effervescent, slightly sparkling quality to it. The largest wine producer in Portugal, Sogrape, is the parent company that owns the Mateus brand which was originally produced in 1942. Over the years, it has become less sweet, and slightly more sparkling.

Mateus wine is a good entry wine, especially for people who have trouble with the tartness of some wines. It is a bit sweeter, and a bright pink color. If you enjoy sweeter wines, this might be for you, but red wine fans will probably not enjoy it.

I am really not a fan of sweet wine. This wine is described as "semi-sweet", but it tastes really sweet to me.
