In adobe acrobat 7 and later you can insert an audio clip by going to the advanced edit menu and select the Sound tool. Draw a rectangle on the page, in the add sound window select the compatibility type, and then choose the sound file. Click embed and you're done.
You can actually embed a sound in a pdf. You would have to have a full version of adobe acrobat. Add sounds by opening advanced tool bar in acrobat and choose sound.

You can embed sound into a PDF, however you must have the full version of Adobe Acrobat(not just reader). There are full tutorials on Adobe's website of how to do this. Open the Advanced Editing Toolbar by choosing View > Toolbars > Advanced Editing. You will use this toolbar to add sounds to your PDF presentation.
