Drinking too much water can cause electrolyte imbalances in the brain of a dog; however, this would have to be EXCESSIVE amounts of water. Dogs could also get bloating from drinking too much water which could lead to a stomach bloat, where there stomach flips over, and essentially will kill the dog if it is not treated.

Some larger breed dogs get a stomach bloat, where there stomach flips over, and essentially will kill the dog if it is not treated. I have heard that too much water intake can lead to this bloating, but I am not sure how much is too much. Just try to regulate it.

Dogs, like people, can get water toxicosis where they basically get poisoned by drinking too much water. Too much water can create osmotic reactions in the body that are very dangerous. But - dogs usually just puke excess water out.

If your dog is drinking an unusually large amount of water, it could be a sign that there is an underlying medical condition. As far as the damage it causes, yes, drinking too much water can cause the stomach to bloat. As a result, the stomach flips.

Yes! Our healthy 2-yr old dog died fronm drinking too much water while biting at wave in the river. Started vomiting & deficating and died within a half hour. No time to even get to the vet!! Please be aware of this problem as we lost a dog we loved.

It's possible but I doubt that will happen to your dog. Usually if a dog drinks too much water all that happens is the dog will puke up some of the water. Basically when your dog drinks a ton of water it just means that he or she will need a few extra trips to the bathroom!

Dogs can't get sick from drinking too much water, but if they drink too much too fast it can cause them to throw up.
