I enjoy sending tulips. For valentine's day the best advice I can give is to use the traditional colors of red, pink, and white tulips.

The best flowers depend less on the type of flower and more on what can be delivered in full bloom and in a quality arrangement. The best approach is to call a local florist and ask what is in season.

My favorite type of flower is gardenias. They smell great. Orchids are nice, too, because they are very pretty. Aristolochia elegans, or calico flowers, are hard to come by but the colors are really interesting on them. Another kind of flower is the dahlia. It is very diverse and comes in a lot of different colors.

It depends on your price range: Lilies of any variety, Birds of Paradise, Antherium, Orchids and other specimen blossoms can be spectacular. Give a living plant to signify a lasting relationship. On a limited budget, go simple and colorful with carnations or mums.
