Are there risks in a pregnancy after having gastric bypass surgery?

I had gastric bypass and I'm not sure if I can safely be pregnant.

Wait at least 18 months after having the surgery before getting pregnant so that your weight stabilizes. When you do conceive, notify your OB-GYN about your surgical history.

The main concern is that after bypass you are more prone to nutritional vitamin deficits and being unable to keep up with the nutritional needs of becoming pregnant. See you doctor before becoming pregnant.

If you are thinking of become pregnant after this type of surgery, the best person to ask is your doctor. Your doctor can tell you the best information with your body and will be able to tell you if you are alright to become pregnant.

The biggest problem is that with impaired gastric function you may not be able to keep up with the increased nutrition demands of pregnancy. See your doctor.
