Deep tissue massage is an intense experience, but not an uncommonly risky procedure. The only risk comes from possible bruising to deep tissue, but is unlikely.

Though HIGHLY UNLIKELY, 2003 article from the Journal or Rheumatology reports: "The reported adverse events include cerebrovascular accidents, displacement of a ureteral stent, embolization of a kidney, haematoma, leg ulcers, nerve damage, posterior interosseous syndrome, pseudoaneurism, pulmonary embolism, ruptured uterus, strangulation of neck, thyrotoxicosis and various pain syndromes."  add a comment

There are, in fact, quite a few risks. Deep tissue massage is actually something that takes some pretty significant training, and if you have someone who doesn't know what they're doing digging deep into your back, then you're probably asking for trouble, especially if you already deal with back problems.

I don't believe risk is involved with the process, but I do know you should drink pleanty of water after the massage due to toxin being released in your body.
