Most kinds of sleeping pills are perfectly safe, however they are addictive so you don't want to become dependendent upon them.

When taken as directed over the counter sleeping pills are safe, but they may not help you with your insomnia. Sleep disorders usually have an underlying cause such as stress or a respiratory issue such as sleep apnea which can be very serious. You should see a doctor to see if you need more than just a sleeping pill.

There are many sorts of different sleeping pills. You should talk to your doctor and before get prescribed any sleeping medication you will look into the causes of the problem. It could be anxiety but it could also be a problem with your thyroid.

The occasional use of sleeping pills is fairly safe, but you do not want to take them very often or for an extended period of time as they, like pain pills, can be highly addictive. If you find yourself unable to sleep for a week in a row, consult your doctor.
