no power cords are not hazardous waste, but it must be disposed of well as it is a plastic waste or it can be recycled.

No, power cords are not hazardous waste. But as they contain lots of plastic they are not bio-degradable waste and so, they just stay as waste for a long, long time, adding to the pollution of our environment. We should certainly reduce waste and encourage recycling of used power cords.

I would say no. Power cords are basically just copper wire and plastic insulation/covering. While it would be wasteful to trash them (copper can fetch a good price) and plastic does not biodegrade in a landfill; it wouldn't be hazardous waste unless it was a powerstrip with a battery backup.

In order to be considered a hazardous waste you need to look at the various components of the product under review. In general, power cords are constructed of metallic conductors and some insulation material. The metal, copper is usually not considered a toxic material. And the insulation, generally paper/plastic materials are also not generally considered toxic.
