Pistachio nuts are members of the cashew family. They contain aflatoxin, an Aspergillis mold. While it is generally safe for humans in low doses it is very poisonous to dogs. Pistachios also contain high levels of phosphorous which is also dangerous for dogs. As with any type of nuts, there is always the possibility of nut allergies in humans.

If pistacio nuts are poisonous I would have been hospitalised or dead by now, in fact so would my entire family. In my lifetime I must have eaten pounds upon pounds. I love pistacio nuts. They are my favorite of all nuts and are known for their nutritional value. They are low in fat compared to other types of nuts.

No. Pistachios are considered to be a heart healthy snack for humans. They are called "the smiling nut" in Iran and "the happy nut" in China. Evidence has even shown that they lower cholesterol, which is essential in the prevention of heart disease. They are in the same family as the Poison Ivy which is dangerous though.
