Are Necco Sweethearts the kind that we used to get when we were kids?

Necco still makes their wafers and the candy hearts at Valentines day. They're not quite as sweet as things made today, but are also a little chalky flavored. Sweet Tarts also makes a new type of candy heart, but those are sweet and sour and different than the necco brand.

Yes, Necco conversation hearts have been made for many years, at the Necco candy company in Revere, Mass. The hearts date back to the early 1900s.
