The first regular cycle varies with each woman. The body has to begin producing hormones that were drastically reduced to maintain your pregnancy. It has been reported to take 6-12 months of menstrual cycles before you will see a pattern begin to appear. Your cycles will most likely start to resemble your pre-pregnancy pattern withing that time frame.

Are you nursing? That will make a difference - if you are nursing your periods might be short, irregular or you might not have them at all. Giving birth is a major hormonal change and it will take your body a while to adjust. If you're bleeding heavily and too often, see your doctor.

It can vary a lot from women to women, but the most key thing is wether you are breast feeding or not. If you do the progesterone causes feedback which will halt your cycles in most women. In others it just really messes them up. It can take 6+ months to get back normal. See your doctor.
