Usually when a pain starts affecting you and it feels like it is behind or around your belly button it indicates that it is in your intestines. It is most likely gas if it is a sharp shooting sort of pain. If it is a dull ache it may be something you ate trying to pass through your system.

The area behind your belly button is where your intestines lie. So it sounds like the pain could be centered on the intestines. You could have an ulcer, hernia, gas, or constipation. You'll need to see a doctor to get a definite diagnosis.
