What could be wrong if my disc drive won't open?

The power supply cable may be fault. Check that. If didn't solve your problem then check the IDE cable. There may be some problems with that. If everything is fine, then there should be some problem with the tray which holds the disk. try changing the tray or mending it.

One possibility for why your disc drive will not open is because there is a disc jammed in there. Another possibility is that there are cables that got disconnected.

The power cable to the drive may be disconnected. Do you get any lights on the drive? This will tell you if it has power or not.

Assuming that this is a Compact Disc drive, the main causes are improperly inserted discs or motor/ belt failure. To check both, take a paperclip and gently insert it into the small hole on the face of the drive and push it in until it manually ejects the tray.
