XP home or any other operating systems runs fast or slow depending only upon the performance of the processor and the RAM. Still then you can improve the speed of your PC with XP home by installing appropriate softwares which is compatible with your hardware or you can upgrade your processor and RAM to boost up the speed.

this may be due to virus attack or low memory and a variety of other problems. the best solution is to install a fresh copy of windows which brings a lot of improvement. if it is not possible, try to update the antivirus program and scan the PC completely. you may also try to minimize the startup programs.

You can increase the amount of RAM your computer has and taht should speed it up. You should also look at how much of your hard drive your using.

The first thing you can do is add more ram to your computer. This can can boost the performance of anything on your system. Second, you want to shut down unnecessary programs that boot during startup.
