Question by  Daniel (34)

Does laparoscopic tubal ligation hurt?

I'd think the process of sterilizing a woman would be painful. Is it?

Laproscopic procedures for performing tubal ligations can be painful at the incision sites. There generally are 3 to 4 incisions, 1 or 2 in the naval, and one or two over each ovary. Alternately, tubal ligation can be partially performed transvaginally resulting in less scarring and less pain, but resulting in possible vaginal bleeding.

There is not an enormous amount of pain associated with this procedure. You will be given anesthesia during the procedure and pain killers afterwards.
