floors

Question by  pwolfe (1)

Would Travertine be a good choice for a high traffic area and pets coming in and out?

I want flooring that's durable but easy-care.

Travertine would not be a good choice because it is porous and anything that is dropped on the floor can permanently stain it.

No it is very porous and soft. It can crack, chip or pit fairly easy. A look alike tile is a much better option for high traffic areas. Something darker and busy if it has pets (with hair and mud on their paws). Travertine is better for bathrooms or couters and fireplace surrounds.

Travertine would be a terrible floor for what you described. It's terribly fragile and would be very slick. A better option would be to install a vinyl floor, which has significantly improved technology compared to just 10 years ago.

Travertine is very porous and holds dirt. It is a very slick flooring and you are probably better off with vinyl floors. If you do put down travertine, you may want to use area rugs through high traffic areas.
