Will fruit really ripen faster if you put it in a paper bag with an apple?

Yes, it really will. Apples release ethylene gas, which even in small quantities will cause other fruit around it (such as bananas, avocados, canteloupes, etc) to ripen. For this reason, you should keep apples separately in a sealed container or one of the drawers in your refrigerator if you want to prolong its life.

To ripen fruit, I have put it in a paper bag with an apple and I do feel that worked well. But to know if it is really faster you need to let some fruit sit out not in a paper bag and some in a paper bag.
