From the time they first start to turn color, tomatoes can take anywhere from 2 days for some cherry varieties, up to a week or more for some large, slow-ripening varieties. It all depends on the variety and also somewhat on their environment.

They will take about a week to two weeks, depending on the amount of heat/sun the plant is getting. Before they get totally bright red[orange red],you can pick them and let them continue to ripen on a sunny windowsill, they will still have that wonderful vine-ripened taste.

There are different varieties of tomatoes that will ripen at different times (Big Boy, Early Girl, etc). Also, it makes a difference when you plant and at what time of year. Generally, it takes a week to two weeks. However, you can always pull a tomato off the vine and allow it to continue to ripen in a sunny place!

Once the tomato had reach it's full size as green, it takes about 2 weeks of hot weather to start the green tomato to turn red. Fertilizing and heavy rain or watering will help it along, but you need to patient. If you like green fried tomatoes, while there mature at green you can use them.

Heavy rain will encourage diluting the flavor and splitting the fruit, and I don't think fertilizer will help much either. Ethylene gas is what helps tomatoes ripen the most.  add a comment

Usualy between 50 to 75 days until the tomato is quite red. It is important to leave the tomatoes be wile on the vine to allow the extra nutrients from the sun to reach the fruit. A tomato is a sun loving plant so it needs time to grow fully. Of course you can eat them green aswell.
