One reason could be that your computer does not have the correct software or drivers to recognize your phone. Another could be a faulty cable

You may need to re-install your Palm Desktop software. Aftermarket programs and homebrew software can sometimes corrupt the installation of your software, and will require you to remove and re-install all components.

This is probably due to a spyware issue. Many spyware joints will leave your palm and other mobile junk gear with some serious issues.

More than likely there is some kind of software issue. Consult Palms website to see if it requires some kind of special drivers.
