Why was "The Nanny" successful?

It had a niche following. I think a lot of people watched it to see if the two main characters would ever get together, and to see the situational comedy. It was the 90's...TV was very different back then.

As many shows, this one was a success because of the humor involved; there were constant moments of humor, turning around Fran's personality, but also interspersed with moments of actual caring, the romantic intrigue between her and the boss, and, of course, the fantastic battle between Niles and the evil Nina.
