Unfortunately, there are many reasons that could cause your dog to vomit and some are more serious than others. If it is only bile coming up, his stomach is probably empty; otherwise, he would be throwing up his food as well. Your best bet is to take your dog to the vet.

If your dog does this frequently, go to the vet as it can be something internal, otherwise change the diet of the dog and make sure to avoid trigger irritants.

If the vomiting does not subside within 24 hours, take him to the vet. It could be a serious sign, such as pancreatitis.
