Why is my central air conditioner making a whining sound?

It could be because some of the internal motor parts are wearing out or it could just need to be oiled and lubricated to ensure that it is not being worn out prematurely.

Could be some thing like a leaf or dust getting in it,Also check if it's freezing up or dust is bilt up on the radiator's Making the electric motor work hard and make a whining sound.Another possible reason is if let it set over winter it could have rusted motor bearing's,last thing to check would be a internal transformer.

Trust me, if it is making that whining sound, then there is a big defect in the system. There may be something stuck in the fan. Perhaps something sharp may be stuck.

If your air conditioner make a whining sound then check the belts. Probably these are loose. If the compressor runs for a long time it can make sound.

My air conditioner wishes it was as cool a cat as I am. But since it does all the work and I just sit and enjoy, it's singing the blues and whining.

yes but it only started whining when i changed the filter. Could the filter be in wrong?
