He could be on dating sites for a variety of reasons. He may be seriously looking for the "next best thing" but he may also be curious. He may just have a curious mind and want to see what sorts of women (or men for that matter) that the site matches him with.

If he's still updating his profile then you should confront him. Maybe he made some friends on them and is still on the site to maintain communications. Ask him.

He is most likely keeping his options open and is not ready to leave the playing field. He may not be secure in your relationship.

If he is dating you, he should not be on dating sites. This is rude and indicates he is only after sex, not a relationship.
