Why does my Tecumseh engine kick back when pulling the cord to start it?

This could be a number of different things. The easiest to check would have to be look to make sure the keyway in the flywheel underneath the recoil is not sheared.

The problem of Kick back while pulling the cord to start may be due to absence of the needed blades. when in small engine if starting process attempted without necessary the blade in it, would lead to kick back problems. The blades act as a weight and keeps back from the kick back mode.

If this type of engine starts to kick back all of the time then you will need to replace the clutch.
