Why does my lawn mower start up and then stop?

Clean the bowl of the carburetor, do this just take the carb off the mower and take it apart, you can buy a cleaning kit but I just used "WD40"and she was running again. This is a easy job to take on. Also run it out of fuel befor winter.

First check fuel levels, it may have a bad connection for the ignition switch, or the carb may need cleaning.

The problem is most likely in the fuel or air flow to the carburetor. Check the float on the carburetor. It could be stuck in the up position which will stop the flow of gas. You can try cleaning the needle valve or replace it. If it starts without the airfilter on, try replacing it.

If this happens only occasionally it just means your mower is feeling not appreciated. Start it up and just ride around the yard for a while before getting to work.

There could be a short in the motor on the lawn mower. You might need to take it in to have it fixed.
