Why does my Chihuahua puppy lay in his own urine?

Many dogs like to lie down and roll in smelly things. The scent is exciting to them. Pull him away and tell him no to train him.

If you puppy doesn't have enough room to have separate "toilet" facilities, he may lay in his spot. If the puppy is not emptying his bladder, or is leaking when sleeping, take him to the vet to make sure there isn't an infection. Clean the area is an enzyme product to discourage him wetting in the same place.

It is most likely that he does not yet realize that this is poor hygiene. I am assuming that he is very young. As he grows up, this behavior will very quickly change and he will avoid his own urine. My dogs used to have the same problem when they were puppies.
