This is most likely Blossom End Rot (BER) and is caused by a lack of calcium at the end of the fruit. This is caused by a lack of water, which is used to transport the calcium throughout the fruit. Make sure your plants are evenly watered but not overwatered.

It sounds like blossom end rot. When the season has been extra rainy (this year especially), blossom end rot can set in tomato plants. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to remedy the situation.

It is possible that your tomatoes are suffering from what my father and grandfather referred to as blossom rot. According to those two seasoned farmers, blossom rot occurs when there has been excessive rain during a period of time when tomatoes are beginning to form on the vine.

This is called blossom end rot and is usually caused by too much water. If you are watering your tomatoes, ease up on the frequency (a good deep soak is best). If its been raining a lot, there's not much you can do except add some mulch.

Black spots that occur on the bottoms of tomatoes on an affected plant are caused by lack of calcium within the tomatoes. The culprit is either soil that is too dry to allow the tomato plant to absorb adequate calcium, or soil that lacks adequate calcium to begin with.
