It's common. You still love him and although you know you shouldn't, you still care about him and want to be with him. You need counseling and a support system.

If this was the first time, perhaps you think he'll never do it again. If it has happened before, perhaps you think you can change him if you just love him more/treat him better (he won't change, BTW). Are you financially dependent on him? Worried you cannot re-make your life to do without him? Do you fear being alone?

Follow your heart. If you want to be with a man who abuses you, it must be destiny. You'll never be truly happy unless you get slapped around some. Make sure to nag him too, that will anger him, and he'll hit you, and you'll just be happier and happier.

Being hit doesn't erase your history with this person. It's a difficult decision to make to leave your comfort-zone, which includes this guy, but difficult decisions are often the ones that need to be made the most. There is someone out there that loves you enough not to hurt you.
