William G. Morgan (1870-1942) is generally credited as the inventor of the game of volleyball, to which he originally gave the name 'mintonette'. Morgan invented volleyball after consultation with James Naismith who in 1891 had invented basketball.

Volleyball was invented by William George Morgan. He worked for the Young Men's Christian Association (also known as the YMCA) and wanted to have a non-contact sport that people could enjoy.

William G Morgan who was born in the State of New York in 1870 is the inventor of Volleyball although he origanally called it "Mintonette". Morgan was the Director of Physical Education at a YMCA and was looking for an exercise activity other than Basketball that would suit the older members.

Volleyball was invented by an American named William G. Morgan. He invented the sport in 1895. He was a member of the YMCA, and combined elements of basketball, tennis and baseball to make volleyball.

William G Morgan invented a game called Minionette, which eventually developed into modern day volleyball. He invented that in 1895. Alfred Halstead modernized it before 1900.
