Unfortunately the Federal Trade Commission, the government entity responsible for the FDCPA, does not resolve individual consumer complaints though reporting violators to the FTC will aid in their statistical analysis of consumer trends. Your legal recourse is to sue the violator. Failing that, a good working knowledge of the FDCPA can help you fend off the bad guys.

There are attorneys who specialize in FDCPA violations. You should be able to find one by browsing on the Internet. Debt collectors are not allowed to contact you at any place or time when you tell them it's inconvenient. They also may not contact you at your place of employment.

FDCPA is the acronym for the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The Federal Trade Commission has jurisdiction over violations under this act, so I suggest you contact their nearest office.

If a debt collector violates the FDCPA there are three places a complaint may be filed: 1. Federal Trade Commission. 2. The Attorney General of your state. 3. The Better Business Bureau.
