"Minnesota" was the first single released by a rock group called Northern Light, in 1975, on the Glacier label. Columbia Records eventually re-released this making it a national hit song. David Sandler (pianist), Spence Peterson (guitarist), Nick Raths (lead guitarist) and Gary Lopac (bassist) made up this four-member band. Sandler wrote, arranged and produced most of their materials.

That song was performed in the 1970s by the band Northern Lights. It aired from during the early-to -mid 1970s, approximately 1970 to 1975. If this is the song with the lyrics "Minnesota...I can almost smell the air...I can feel her hand...," then this is the answer to your question.

The song Minnesota was sung by Northern Lights in 1970. This song was more famous than its singer ever was. They released a lot of songs after this one, but none got as famous as Minnesota.
