Who makes the Smart car?

The Smart Car is made by Daimler/Chrysler and is quickly becoming a very popular car in the market for its gas efficiency. It looks really cool, too: very compact and appropriate for today's environmental concerns. I can just picture one parked perpendicularly; that's hilarious. They're flexible, they're cool, they're efficient, and safe.

Mercedes-Benz makes the SmartForTwo car. It has been available in Germany for several years (where at least one display has them stacked and rotating on a multi-story turntable) and has recently become available in the US. They have acceptable crash test ratings for small cars, but in collisions with large cars, they may suffer catastrophic damage.

I do not know exactly what company makes the Smart car. I'm pretty sure that it is European and I think it is German. I think it is it's own company now that I think about it. It's a pretty cool car.
