There are several schools of Buddhism, each with its own spiritual leader. The Dalai Lama is the best known but is the leader only of the Tibetan Buddhists. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso leads Kadampa Buddhists, for example, while Daisaku Ikeda heads the Soka Gakkai movement based in Japan. All Buddhist movements have a designated spiritual leader.
