The Rub' al Khali is one of the largest sandy deserts in the entire world. It is located on the Arabian Peninsula, and falls within the boundaries of Saudia Arabia, Oman, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. Rub' al Khali means "Empty Quarter" in English, a fitting name since it is uninhabited, even by the nomadic Bedouins.
