Where do I start when designing a multi-room audio system?

Well considering you said Multi-room You probably want to focus on the tv before the sound. But besides that depending on the size of the room I would suggest going to a local audio shop instead of the big name stores and asking around.

You would start by looking at your room and decide what you actually want done. You would then need to look into the electronics and decide what kind of wiring you need and then set up a plan that allows for what you want done with your system and that is within your price range.
